Hi my name is Sarah and this is my blog, which you probably already know since you’re here, but, you’re probably wondering who I am and why I’m doing this.
First and foremost, I think you and I might have a lot in common. That in common being over a certain age, between the time that we don’t want to work anymore and the time that we can officially retire, if indeed we can. But, most of all as women we’re at that point in our lives where we’re looking around and realizing that our life may or may not be where we want it to be.
Maybe you’ve had the same experiences that I’ve had. It seems like I’ve taken care of everyone, and everything all my life, and, been the solid rock in my family since I was old enough to see over the kitchen countertop, and no, it wasn’t putrid avocado green. Thank God!!! 😊 Being the person who takes care of things and the fixer, I’ve very often put myself very last in all aspects of my life meaning family, work, etc., and now I’m at an age where I’m wondering what in the world happened.
Being a card-carrying member of GenX (as if we carried cards) the song that comes to mind is Once in a Lifetime by the Talking Heads. You can watch it here ( that’s another thing about me, I link a lot to videos – it what it is).
At this age and stage, we’ve pretty much learned that the idea we carried around in our minds about what life would look like is long gone, and for some of us where we are is so much better than we ever could have imagined, but for others of us that’s not the case at all. For some of us it’s become more than just the Boulevard of Broken Dreams.
That being said, dreams may be broken, forgotten, discarded but I don’t believe they’re actually gone for good unless we want them to be. Unless they no longer represent or serve us.
So, this is a place where I’m hoping we can come together, rediscover some of those dreams and decide if we want to pursue them, or if we have new dreams we’d like to accomplish and explore those. Maybe that looks like wearing that leather motorcycle jacket you always wanted to get, finally did, then never wore because you’re afraid of what people might think, or what you yourself might think. Or, maybe it’s realizing that you maybe you would like to go on hikes, but don’t know where to start. There’s just so many things to do and so much life to live, we just need to discover what that looks like for each of us!
I’m going to do my best to give us all ideas on how we can make our lives more fulfilling to each of us on our unique journeys. Please let me know if there’s a blog about a certain topic, or place to go, or just about anything, well almost anything 😉, that you’d like me to write, and I’ll do my very best to write it.
